about

First released in 1987, this album was lovingly rescued and digitized in 2021 directly from the only known cassette master. The Spontaneous Triad were an ephemeral trio in the mid-1980s in Madison, Wisconsin (seen here at the Wild Hog in the Woods Coffeehouse). Our only recording is this homage to the Watersons' Frost and Fire and Arky's Toast's Maypoles to Mistletoe. To those from whom we never sought permission, we ask forgiveness for our youthful ignorance of copyright in today's archival endeavours.

True to our name, the Triad shared a passion for spontaneous close harmony, a glorious camaraderie, and a wicked sense of humor. Each of us has gone on to widely varying musical careers in the more than half a lifetime that has passed since we first sang together. I hope my companions may get a kick out of this blast from the past and think as I do, "Hey, we were pretty good back in the day!"
